At Climatiq, we've always championed science as the cornerstone of our efforts to combat the climate crisis. This belief has led us to form our Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), comprising leading scientists from diverse backgrounds who guide our data philosophy and methodology. After announcing our initial board members last year, we're now excited to welcome a new addition, Professor Richard Wood.
Richard Wood is one of the lead developers of the most well-known MR EEIOT Multi-regional Environmentally Extended Input-Output Table- EXIOBASE. As a trusted source of spend-based emission factors, it provides data at an unprecedented level of detail for 44 countries representing 95% of the global GDP. Spend-based conversion factors are the primary method for enterprises to estimate their supply chain footprint, particularly Scope 3.1 - purchased goods and services. Using data from EXIOBASE, enterprises can convert spend on any good into carbon emissions, providing a holistic view of an organization's footprint.
Available through Climatiq’s carbon calculation API, this dataset significantly amplifies our ability to deliver trusted emission metrics and intelligence. These insights are channeled into the software and systems businesses use to manage their operations, equipping them with the tools to implement impactful carbon-reduction strategies. Richard’s expertise will help us to further leverage this critical resource and build reliable carbon measurement solutions for our users.

Richard Wood is an adjunct professor at the Industrial Ecology Programme at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and a senior consultant at the Institute for Regional Futures, University of Newcastle, Australia. His research focuses on the social and human drivers of environmental change, which includes areas like trade, sustainable consumption, circular economy and sustainable investment/finance. His track record of over 100 publications and his recognition on Web of Science’s Highly Cited (top 1%) of global researchers for 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, underlines his significant contributions to the field of sustainability science.

His leadership in assessing the impact of the economy on global emissions, combined with his expertise in quantitative modeling, particularly environmental input-output modeling and life-cycle assessment, strengthens our commitment to providing comprehensive and trustworthy data to our customers.
